Wegmans has stopped using plastic bags statewide prior to the plastic bag ban, which
goes into effect on Mar. 1. The grocery chain implemented the change on Jan 27. Although plastic bags will not be offered anymore, Wegmans will provide paper bags for five cents each, as well as reusable bags for 99 cents.
As for any leftover plastic bags, Wegmans plans to send them to locations in other states where they can be used, and unopened boxes will be donated to food banks.
Tops will continue to use plastic bags until the ban goes into effect. Some grocery stores, such as Whole Foods, Aldi’s and Trader Joe’s, have already eliminated single-use plastic bags prior to talk of a ban.
If you’re looking to purchase reusable bags, they are sold at Walmart, Dollar Tree, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls, as well as on Amazon.
